Why won`t my tomatoes ripen?

I`ve succeeded in growing, at the first attempt, several massive tomatoe bushes, with literally hundreds of tomatoes. But they remain stubbornly green. They continue to get bigger, but none of them have the remotest shade of red about them. They are on a south facing patio and I`m watering every day, and feeding them with Tomorite as directed. Am I doing something wrong?

They don't generally ripen until they're fully grown. There's time yet, be patient.
Oh and very well done for your first time of growing, that's great!

maybe been a bit late in sowing and of course we haven't had a spectacular summer. My ripening regime is to make a bucket of feed at half strength and give that at every watering. It does help

Take off a lot of the leaves- at least a third. Esp the ones hiding the fruit ( or have you already done this??)

Kitchen foil behind the plants will reflect the light forwards and help the fruit ripen.

I think most of us are having probs with ripening this year. Sounds like you're doing better than me this year!!

Also- I seem to recall that if you have too many trusses then the lower ones don't ripen as quickly.

I would suggest stopping the plants now (if you haven't already done so).

Pinch or snip off the growing points - then the plant's energy will be focused on maturing and ripening the fruits, rather than developing more trusses.

Also make sure you nip off the armpits if you're growing cordons (not bushes). Otherwise the plants put all their energy into producing leaves, not fruits
